To the Parents and Students of Ms. Mungall’s Sports Medicine III Classes:
Welcome to sports medicine and the world of athletic training! As with most careers, those who choose a career in sports medicine must develop exemplary interpersonal skills. Communicating clearly, being receptive to the ideas of those you work with, and understanding how to effectively work as a team are absolutely necessary. This class will place a large emphasis on these concepts, and we will work together to build your skills in these areas. Understanding the following class policies and expectations will place you in a position to be successful in my class.
Course Supply Fee: $20 (Payment made online)
Class Policies:
Have all appropriate materials and supplies at your desk and be working on daily assignment when the bell rings.
RESPECT at all times the ideas, space, and property of Ms. Mungall, classmates, and visitors to class.
Do not use vulgar or offensive language.
Follow directions the first time that they are given.
Accountability: If you choose not to follow the class rules expect the following:
First Offense: Parent notification, lunch detention Second Offense: Parent notification, two lunch detentions Third Offense: Referral to administration
Grading: First Quarter: 40% Daily Work (Projects, classwork, participation) 30% Journals/Unit Tests 30% 100 Training Room Hours *
Second Quarter: 40% Daily Work 30% Journal/Unit Tests 30% 100 Training Room Hours *
Final Grade = 40% 1st Quarter Average + 40% 2nd Quarter Average + 20% Final Exam
* I strongly encourage all students to participate as much as possible after school and gain practical experience in the training room and at practices/games. As a minimum requirement, you will need to schedule in advance and work with me 100 hours each quarter after-school. There are plenty of opportunities to accumulate these hours. Keep in mind that you need to be productive during these hours; simply taking up space and oxygen will NOT gain you full credit.
Absences: Any work that is missed by a student due to an excused absence is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY. The student must ask for makeup work the day of their return to class. Work that is missed due to an unexcused absence will be accepted and graded as according to school policy. If an assignment is made before an absence, the student is responsible for the work the day of their return. For example: On Monday, a test is announced for Friday. On Thursday, you are absent and miss the test review. You still take the test on Friday, or upon the day of your return.
Bathroom Procedure: When you need to use the bathroom, you will signal Ms. Mungall as demonstrated on the first day of class. Please pick up the correct HALL PASS and take it with you to the restroom. ONLY one person will be allowed to leave the room at the time. You will not be allowed to leave the first 10 minutes of class, as that is an important time for class announcements and review.
Tardiness: Students should not be tardy to class. Students will be locked out of the classroom at the conclusion of the tardy bell and will receive an administrative consequence. Students will not be admitted to class without a tardy pass from attendance or administration.
Other Information:
We will go over the procedures in case of a fire drill or severe weather drill in class; proper behavior is expected during these drills and emergencies.
You may drink water or Gatorade/PowerAde in class unless it is spilled or you leave trash behind.
You are allowed to eat HEALTHY SNACKS in the classroom.
You do not need to ask me to get up for a tissue or to sharpen a pencil, but please do so without disturbing the class.
