For my second internship, I was at Emerge Ortho in Brier Creek. Here, I learned about everything a physical therapist can do to help a person feel better. I met a lot of different people who were coming to Emerge for many different reasons. The most common reason for people coming in was back pain. I saw a lot of people who were coming in that had very tight muscles in their back. To help this, the physical therapists would give the patient exercises to do and would also help to stretch out the tight muscles in their back. The most interesting thing I saw was occupational therapy. The lady there that did this could make so many different braces and other things to help a person feel better. I could see myself working in an environment like this because everyone at the office seems like they are really enjoying what they are doing. This job also seems very rewarding because you get to help people get back to their normal every day lives. I had a great time observing the physical therapists at Emerge Ortho.

For my second internship I was with Mrs. K and her students. During the time I was there I was able to help all the students on their work and was even able to teach the whole class. Not only was I able to help the students with their work but I was able to socialize with with them and get to know them better than I did while I was in snac club. I was able to help them with their math assignment (finding mean median and finding X), as well as their reading assignments. I think I would be interested in working in this field because I enjoy teaching kids and because you are able to have a more personal teaching experience and because the students are very nice and try their hardest on whatever their doing.

In this rotation Internships I found it really interesting to see how the medical field works. I love shadowing the physicians and the physicians assistant because you got to go in with the patients in see how they talk and how they act with the patient which is different from how they act outside of the patient’s room. It was also it was fun because the people there really do try to include you on everything they do, and they don’t mind to explain anything to you. I would love to do an internship again there I think it would get me ready for life after high school. I also really like to learn more about that medical field and how all of it works together and come together as a team or a unit.

For my second internship i was at the Durham Highway Fire Department for this internship i was hanging out with the firefighters and learning about their job and task the complete. My favorite part of the fire department was just hanging out and being in the environment because they’re super funny and nice it’s like a family there. I thought it was super cool how they work 24 hour shifts 10 days a month so the fire department doesn’t have to be their main job or focus. The fire fighters are usually on the sence before the ambulances so they usually give primary care before the ambulance arrives they’re kind of like a team and work together if there’s a heavy person to lift the fire department might come or if there’s a fire and a possibility of a injury the ambulance might come to the sene. After seeing what a fire department station i would like to see what a ambulance station looks like because i thought they just parked at hospitals turns out they have stations too. Over all i liked my other internship better but they were both lots of fun

For my second rotation I was at the Durham Highway Fire Department. At this location I learned the role that firefighters play in the medical field. Prior to my knowledge I thought that most of the calls that fire fighters went on were actual fires but it turns out that 90% of their calls are medical calls. We learned what medical care fire fighters are allowed to provide, how to spine board someone, what is in the medical bags that firefighters use, the degrees that fire fighters can receive and the differences between a fire fighter and an EMT and we did an EMS visit where we got on the truck and learned what was in it and the specific dynamics of their jobs. The most interesting part was learning about the different types of calls that the fire fighters go on and how they go about deciding what actions to take. They answer many different types of calls from people being pinned in cars to heaters exploding and lighting Christmas trees on fire and the most important part is deciding what the smartest course of action is. I had an amazing time working at the fire station and I am very glad that I got the opportunity.

In anatomy, Ms. Dotson was teaching us about the sensory nerves and how not having one nerve can turn off a sense. And this made me wonder how that works with the ability to learn. I really, truly enjoyed working with all of those wonderful people. I learned so much about how various interactions, concepts, and actions are presented and learned entirely different based on how the brain works. I would love to go back if possible. I feel that I made new friends and found a new topic that really sparked my interest and inspired me to learn more about it.

For my second rotation I was at Emerge Ortho in Brier Creek. My first reaction to it was "holy moly this place is huge". I remember being surprised at open and inviting it felt. The first day was different because I went there by myself. I found it very easy to approach each of the trainers. Most of the time the cases with the patients consisted of tightness in their backs. Most not from a sudden injury. My favorite part was seeing how far people have progressed throughout their injury. I also was amazed at how much of a connection each trainer had with their patients.
